Scheduled Workshops
The following workshops are currently offered through the Instructional Technology Center for the Spring 2007 semester. Faculty can register for them by visiting the workshop registration page and following the onscreen instructions.
• Getting Started with WebCT CE 4.1
Overview: In this Workshop, we will explore tools and features that can be accessed by students, designers, and instructors alike: My WebCT, Mail, and My Files. We will also identify and use some of the common functions that appear throughout the WebCT CE interface. You’ll discover how the uniform look and operation across tools helps users to quickly become comfortable with WebCT CE. Finally, we will take brief tours of the student, instructor, and designer roles as we explore a sample course.
Prerequisite: At least an empty course shell. To have one created, complete and submit this form.
Format: 2-hour, group workshop
• Building Courses with WebCT CE 4.1
Overview: Taking a step beyond the basics, faculty will learn how to construct an effective WebCT course. Many of WebCT's tools will be discussed in depth and demonstrated during this workshop. Also, effective methods for organization of content such as Organizer Pages and Content Modules will be discussed.
Prerequisite: Getting Started with WebCT CE 4.1
Format: 2-hour, face-to-face workshop
• Communicating with Students in WebCT CE 4.1
Overview: Instructors can use the Chat tool to communicate with students synchronously, adding a valuable real-time element to their online classes. In this workshop, participants will gain hands-on experience with this synchronous tool and learn strategies for using it effectively in your section.
Prerequisite: Getting Started with WebCT CE 4.1
Format: 1-hour, face-to-face workshop
• Basic Class Website Creation with Dreamweaver
Overview: Since many faculty have requested training in the creation and maintenance of classroom website, ITC developed a workshop to teach the basics of website creations such as creating a directory, building a page, and uploading files using Dreamweaver.
Format: 2-hour, group workshop
• Scanning Graphics and Capturing Text with OCR to Create Electronic Documents
Overview: This past semester, a large volume of faculty had inquired about scanning documents. Here at the center, we are committed to teaching faculty how to learn new technology. Therefore, we created a scanning tutorial to aid them. The scanning tutorial is designed for faculty to learn how to scan on their own, if no one is available to help them. The scanning tutorial also helps faculty members scan documents with ease and efficiency without having to wait for assistance. After the tutorial was implemented, many faculty members found themselves coming in and using the scanner without assistance.
Format: 2-hour, group workshop
• Teaching from the IDL (Interactive Distance Learning) classroom
Overview: Orientation to distance learning concepts and experience teaching in an Interactive Distance Learning Room (IDL). Will discuss synchronous and asynchronous distance learning and provide suggestions to enhance your experience with distance learning. Follow-up sessions scheduled as needed.
Format: 2-hour, group workshop
• Creating Instructional Presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint
Overview: Workshop participants will learn techniques for creating successful PowerPoint presentations designed to aid teaching and learning. Effective integration of PowerPoint into the classroom will also be discussed and demonstrated.
Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of PowerPoint desirable, but not required.
Format: 2-hour, group workshop
